Fluffy French Toast

A unique French toast recipe that uses flour in the batter for extra fluffiness and texture.

Ingredients

Batter

  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon white sugar

Other

  • 12 thick slices bread
  • Oil for griddle/pan

Instructions

  1. Make batter:

    • Measure flour into a large mixing bowl
    • Slowly whisk in milk
    • Add salt, eggs, cinnamon, vanilla extract, and sugar
    • Whisk until smooth
  2. Cook:

    • Heat lightly oiled griddle or frying pan over medium heat
    • Soak bread slices in mixture until saturated
    • Cook bread on each side until golden brown
    • Serve hot

Notes

  • Use thick-cut bread for best results
  • Bread should be slightly stale for better absorption
  • Can be served with:
    • Maple syrup
    • Fresh berries
    • Whipped cream
    • Powdered sugar
  • Batter can be made ahead and refrigerated
  • Don’t oversoak bread or it may fall apart
  • Keep cooked pieces warm in low-temperature oven while making the rest
